The Ashoka Crossover Series - India’s Crisis in the Classics
“If one has access to the past of India, one has access to5000 years of human consciousness”- Professor Sheldon Pollock
Most of us have attended many academic lectures, but rarely does one get an opportunity to be a part of lecture series, that marks the beginning of a new era in itself! I am here talking about the Ashoka crossover series, which was recently held at the Teen Murti Auditorium. The crossover series lays foundation to one of the most phenomenal initiatives in the field of higher education in India- the setting up of India’s first liberal arts Academia, The Ashoka University.
The maiden lecture of the Ashoka crossover series was delivered by Dr. Sheldon Pollock (Professor, Columbia University, New York),who engrossed the audience, necessitating the study of our own past. Dr. Bhanu Pratap Mehta (President, Center for Policy Research) played the apt converser to the dialogue, at "India's Crisis in the Classics," the first of the Ashoka Crossover Series.
The talk not only stimulated interest and raised awareness of the audience in the fields of cross cultural and Sanskritic studies, but also inspired many to ask thought provoking questions on the same. Many distinguished guests from the academic and the corporate fraternity also attended the event, hence it was a great opportunity for the Young India Fellows to interact and learn from them.
Its uniqueness was an enriching experience, and I personally look forward to be a part of the Crossover series lectures in the near future.
