Young India Fellowship programme was launched in 2011 by the International Federation for Research and Education (IFRE) in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Through the first two editions of YIF, several leading Penn faculty have taught at YIF and the YIF graduation certificates are co-signed by the YIF and Penn Engineering Deans.

YIF is also privileged to partner with Carleton College, one of America's top-ranked liberal arts colleges, and Sciences Po, a leading university in France and Europe, to offer learning with greater diversity, depth and value at the Fellowship.

Penn Engineering

UPenn and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

Young India Fellowship has been designed and will be delivered in collaboration with University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) through an MoU with the School of Engineering and Applied Science (Penn Engineering).

The University of Pennsylvania traces its origins to 1740 and embodies the vision of its founder, Benjamin Franklin, for a new type of learning institution. The original programme of study became America’s first modern liberal arts curriculum. Nine signers of the Declaration of Independence and eleven signers of the Constitution are associated with the University. For the last two-and-a-half centuries, Penn has advanced its principles and spirit through entrepreneurship, innovation, invention, outreach and a love of knowledge. Franklin’s practical outlook has remained a driving force in the University’s development.

Today, the University of Pennsylvania is a world leader in higher education, ranked fifth among American universities. Its 10,000 undergraduates are drawn from all 50 U.S. states and numerous foreign countries. Admissions are among the most selective in the United States, with about 15 percent of applicants matriculating each year. More than 11,000 additional students are enrolled in Penn’s 12 graduate and professional schools, all of which are national leaders in their fields. As of 2010, there have been 23 Noble Laureates affiliated with University of Pennsylvania.

The School of Engineering and Applied Science is one of the oldest in the United States, and was established in 1852 as a School of Mines, Arts and Manufactures. It has grown since that time into a center of excellence in the creation of technology. Its spirit of innovation led to the creation in 1946 of ENIAC, the first general-purpose digital computer, making Penn the birthplace of the digital revolution.

Penn Engineering offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, and is particularly distinguished by its interdisciplinary, cross-school programmes such as Management and Technology, Digital Media Design, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Robotics and the Singh Program in Market and Social Systems Engineering, which puts Penn at the forefront of intellectual and entrepreneurial activity. Penn Engineering includes approximately 1,600 undergraduates, 1,000 graduate students, four research institutes, and ten research centres.
